Artist in Residence Irish Seed Savers

We are collaborating with visual artist Rachel Doolin to create a national exhibition on heirloom heritage food seeds, as part of our own focus to raise awareness about the importance of agricultural biodiversity and our heritage food culture, to protect our seed sovereignty and food security.

With Ireland’s history of famine and food exports there is a need for focus on local food production and creating a resilient circular closed economy from a seed-to-seed perspective, to secure our ability as a nation to both feed ourselves and to protect our precious agricultural biodiversity. As a nation we have become reliant on other countries to feed us and historical farming practices of growing and saving food seed needs to be revised to protect our ability as a nation to feed ourselves.
